Russia Kolguyev Island

Geodynamics Worldwide concluded the work for a passive seismic spectroscopy and a separate micro-seismic survey on the island of Kolguev in the Barents Sea, Russia, beyond the Arctic Circle, for the client Urals Energy. The target area was selected in the West block of the client’s asset. The passive seismic spectroscopy was comprised of 40 data points, whilst for the micro seismic 7 seven days of continuous measurements was applied.
Conditions were difficult due to the presence of melting snow which affected both access to target as well as coupling of the instruments the ground. The field work was completed in May-June 2013 in 30 says.
The results of the spectroscopy will generate a hydrocarbon distribution map, whereas the micro-seismic will aim at locating the hypocenters of micro tremors which will be a complementary tool for upgrading the structural model of the subsurface of the West block.
The directors of Urals Energy believe “that the preliminary review of the results show the possibility of significantly increasing production… from the current horizons with limited capital and operational expenditure. This is based on five main trends of hydrocarbon potential as revealed by the results of the Surveys and is consistent with the Company’s existing exploration strategy”.
